What can Aquaculture teach us about COVID-19?

Catastrophic diseases wiping out millions of dollars in profit in a matter of days? That’s nothing new in the world of aquaculture. In fact, some studies suggest that annual global losses from disease are somewhere around the $6bn mark. In some species – such as shrimp – losses can exceed 40%. Even in the natural environment disease can be catastrophic. The reintroduction of native oysters around the Scottish coastline is being seriously threatened by parasitic infection.
